True Heart Troubadours
Tim O’Brien and Mary Gauthier

Over the past 25 years, acclaimed singer-songwriter Mary Gauthier has used her art to traverse uncharted waters. Dark Enough to See the Stars is her 11th album and first in more than eight years where she’s written all the songs. It follows 2018’s Rifles and Rosary Beads, a collaborative work with wounded Iraq war veterans that garnered a Grammy nomination for Best Folk Album and a nomination for Album of the Year from the Americana Music Association. Gauthier’s songs have been recorded by dozens of artists, including Jimmy Buffett, Dolly Parton, Blake Shelton, Tim McGraw, Bettye LaVette, Kathy Mattea, Bobby Bare, Amy Helm, and Candi Staton. They have also appeared extensively in films and on television, most recently on HBO’s Yellowstone.

Born in Wheeling, West Virginia, in 1954, Grammy-winning singer-songwriter and multi-instrumentalist Tim O’Brien grew up singing in church and in school. After seeing Doc Watson on TV, he became a lifelong devotee of old-time and bluegrass music. O’Brien started touring in 1978 with the Colorado bluegrass band Hot Rize. His songs “Walk the Way the Wind Blows” and “Untold Stories” were hits for the band, and later country hits for Kathy Mattea. Over the years, O’Brien has collaborated with Steve Earle, Mark Knopfler, Dan Auerbach, and Sturgill Simpson, among others, and artists such as Nickel Creek, Garth Brooks, and the Chicks have covered his songs.
